Through Rose-Coloured Glasses 25th Anniversary

Mark Lockheart's seminal album "Through Rose-Coloured Glasses" is set to be re-released on Edition Records this December 1st, celebrating its 25th anniversary. A cornerstone in the renowned British saxophonist and composer’s career, the album initially marked Lockheart's debut as a bandleader and showcased his burgeoning talent as a writer. The original 1998 recording, supported by the Peter Whittingham Award, features the Scratch Band—a 12-piece ensemble—and includes some of Lockheart's most cherished studio work. Despite initial technical challenges during the recording process at Livingston Studios, the album captures the spirit and brilliance of Lockheart’s compositions, particularly standouts like the meditative 'Way Of The Road' and the lively 'For Kicks'. Lockheart, a pivotal figure who rose to prominence with Loose Tubes and continued to push the boundaries of jazz with Perfect Houseplants and Polar Bear, brings his rich, expressive saxophone style and innovative writing to the fore on this record. This re-release not only commemorates a pivotal moment in Lockheart's impressive career but also reinforces his ongoing influence on the evolving jazz landscape. Furthermore, this special anniversary re-release paves the way for Lockheart's forthcoming studio album, set for release in Spring 2024. Returning to Livingston Studios for this next chapter, the album promises to be a captivating blend of familiarity and innovation, featuring many of the original players who contributed to "Through Rose-Coloured Glasses," alongside new talent from the British jazz scene, heralding another exciting phase in Lockheart’s illustrious musical journey.
